Overview

Mae Sai Thai Food delivers a genuine taste of Northern Thailand right in the heart of Temecula, California. Nestled at 26491 Ynez Rd, this cozy restaurant brings an authentic, homestyle experience that stands out among the usual Thai offerings. The location itself is inviting—a bright, colorful space adorned with decorative umbrellas and traditional murals, echoing the culture from the Myanmar border region of Mae Sai, from which it draws its name and inspiration.

What truly defines Mae Sai Thai Food is its commitment to authentic Northern Thai cuisine, distinct from the more familiar Central or Southern Thai flavors. Guests often praise standout dishes like the Panang Curry, which strikes a perfect balance of spice and creaminess, and the Crab Meat Fried Rice, noted for its freshness and delicate seasoning. These dishes showcase the kitchen’s dedication to fresh, high-quality ingredients and carefully calibrated flavors.

The menu offers a rich variety of options, from traditional stir-fries like Pad Prick King with green beans and red curry paste, to specialties such as the spicy Basil Chicken and the uniquely flavorful Larb chicken. Vegetarians and vegans will also find thoughtful selections like Orange Chicken Vegan and Deep Fried Tofu, illustrating the restaurant’s attentiveness to diverse dietary preferences.

Visitors consistently highlight the welcoming and attentive staff, whose knowledge and friendliness enhance the overall dining experience. From guiding newcomers through the menu’s northern specialties to accommodating special requests, the team ensures each visit feels personal and genuine. The restaurant’s vibrant atmosphere, paired with unique elements such as assorted traditional cups and outdoor tables shaped like bowls, creates a memorable ambiance that invites guests to linger and savor every bite.

For families and food enthusiasts alike, Mae Sai Thai Food offers an exploration into lesser-known Thai culinary traditions, including Lau dishes that bring intense, layered flavors with dishes featuring fried basil, ground pork, and savory sauces served alongside a comforting fried egg on rice. These cultural nuances position Mae Sai as a destination for both those familiar with Thai cuisine and those eager to discover authentic northern flavors.

Whether you’re craving the smoky, spicy kick of their Seafood or Salmon Salad with a vibrant chili and cilantro dressing, or the sweet notes of Mango Sticky Rice for dessert, the experience at Mae Sai Thai Food feels like a small journey to the Thai-Burmese border. It’s a place where quality ingredients meet heartfelt cooking, all wrapped in a cozy, artful setting. If you find yourself in Temecula and seek a Thai dining experience that feels both authentic and refreshing, Mae Sai Thai Food is well worth the visit.

My family and I love Lau food so we had to try Mae Sai Thai in Temecula Ca. Not many Thai restaurants serve Lau and Mae Sai serves some Lau dishes . Lau is different from the Thai food we’ve had before. Lau has so much flavor in their dishes! I love the fried Basil that was in my dish. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the dish, but it had ground pork with fried basil, some onion and green beans all in a savory sauce. Then they add a fried egg on top of the rice. It was so delicious. My daughter had the Penang curry with chicken which she said was a little sweet for her. My hubby had the Larb chicken and he loved it!! He said it was one of the best he’s had! We will definitely be back to try more dishes on the menu. I almost forgot! We also had some Thai tea too. Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of them but they were good too. The service was great! The staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. So If you ever get the chance to try Lau or Thai food then I would suggest trying Mae Sai Thai in Temecula Ca. You just might end up liking it too.

This a very authentic northern Thai restaurant. Mae Sai is on the Myanmar (Berma) boarder, very north and the taste is different than Bangkok or southern Thai. I had the Pineapple curry and it was delicious! The prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant for not only their great food, but authentic northern Thai decor and traditional Thai service.

Mae Sai, thanks you for your delicious food and great hospitality. I love the unique cups, all the cups are different which I find quaint and adds to the colorful design of the place. The ceiling umbrellas are so beautiful in person. The food is made with all authentic ingredients and made in the kitchen. The chicken was tender and juicy. Noodles were cooked perfectly. The tables outside looked like bowls which I thought were very cool. Staff is very friendly, attentive and answered any questions we had in regard to the food. Overall we enjoyed our experience and plan on coming again

I recently visited Mae Sai Thai Food, and I have to say, I was completely amazed. I've had a lot of Thai food in the past, but this felt different—it had an authentic, home-cooked quality that you don't find everywhere. The interior is a small, but bright and cheery space, adorned with colorful murals and decorative umbrellas on the ceiling, creating a genuinely welcoming and unique atmosphere. From the moment I walked in, the staff were friendly and attentive, which made the whole dining experience feel personal and relaxed. For my meal, I decided to go with the Panang Curry and the Crab Meat Fried Rice, two of their popular dishes. The Panang curry was rich and perfectly spiced, with a wonderful balance of flavors that had me savoring every bite. The crab fried rice was equally impressive; the crab meat was high-quality, the rice was perfectly cooked, and it wasn't overly salty, which can be an issue at other places. I also tried their famous Thai Tea, which was creamy and the perfect, refreshing complement to the heat of the food. It's clear that they use very fresh ingredients here, as all the vegetables had a nice, crisp texture. Overall, my experience at Mae Sai Thai Food was fantastic. The portions were generous, the prices were reasonable, and the food was absolutely delicious. I also appreciated that they offer a wide range of vegan and vegetarian options, and the staff seemed very knowledgeable about dietary needs. My only complaint is that it's a bit of a drive for me, but it's well worth the trip. I'm already looking forward to going back and trying their Northern-style pork sausage or the mango sticky rice dessert. This spot is a true hidden gem for authentic Thai cuisine.

The food here is excellent. Our favorite is the spicy basil with seafood with fried egg. The curry puff is also amazing. The only one bad thing is to go packaging. While using paper container is a good concept but pls consider nature of the food. We spent close to $70 to go and now the sauce could leaking everywhere in our car. Good thing we had some groceries bags underneath the paper bag, so the sauce didn’t run pass extra bag into the carpet of our car.

Panama Curry was delicious. Another person had the Tom Kah soup, and the third had stir fry vegetables. All were very fresh and flavorful. Lots of other very authentic dishes from Thailand. The food is authentic, the service great and the decor is colorful. I wish I lived closer. I’d eat here a lot.

Seafood curry is very tasty! Beef salad has tomato, cucumber, onion slices, cilantro and green onion; dressing is very refreshing but the beef slices are a little bit too old, tasted dry. Over all service is good. They also have vegetarian options.
